i remember in 2014 everyone was pointing out how creepy twilight was and how edward was constantly depicted as a stalker and the shit with jacob literally falling in love with a fucking baby and now its 2018 and people are trying to claim twilight was actually good all along and we only hated it bc of misogyny or whatever like… how did y’all get less woke

For the record, I don’t think anyone is trying to claim Twilight was perfect and pure all along, or whatever – I think its been pretty conclusively shown that Twilight has some weird, awful, creepy, virgin-fetishy, racist, anti-abortion, Mormon-, misogynist, grossness baked into it. But the way culture as a whole ripped it apart like a pack of starving dogs fighting over a steak was certainly influenced by the fact that it was created by a woman and popular with women, and pop culture ephemera made by and popular with men that is just as bad or worse doesn’t ever receive anywhere near the same amount of gleefully fervent scrutiny that Twilight did. Those two things are not exclusive.
