The fact that you can’t raise taxes on billionaires even slightly without them pouring money into fascist political movements is, of itself, evidence that billionaires as a class shouldn’t be allowed to exist in the first place.
anyway NO ONE should be a billionaire…..NO ONE should be allowed to hoard THAT much money when whole countries starve to death. If you think I’m bitter that’s fine but it’s the truth, I don’t make the rules
I hate when people are all “oh they earned it they deserve it why shouldn’t people be able to have the money they earrnedddd”
I can guarantee you that no one has ever made an HONEST billion. Without extortion, fraud, underpaying employees, etc.
And do you realize how muchhh money a BILLION dollars IS ?
It’s a million dollars, 1,000 times.
So if you have 160 bil. like Jeff Bezos, that is a million dollars, 160,000 times…
You can live a perfectly lavish, over the top lifestyle, with hundreds of millions. You do not need that much money even if you “earned” it.
They hoard all of that money not even to spend, but to hoard it for the sake of power.
Saying that rich people hate poor people misses the point, imo.
It doesn’t matter if the rich hate the poor or if they actually love them deep down. They exploit and profit from the poor. A reserve army of labour is an intrinsic part of capitalism, it scares workers from organizing and fighting for their rights.
If a capitalist saw the error of their ways and decided to treat their workers well and give to the poor that would affect their bottom line and they would be squeezed out of the market by their more ruthless fellow capitalists. Exploitation is literally unavoidable under capitalism.
It’s not the morals of capitalists that need to be fought, it’s capitalism itself.
I’m glad this article highlights that if this man made it to shore and had extended contact with these people, he would have exposed them to diseases they’ve never seen before and potentially killed them all. There’s a reason it’s illegal to go there, and Jesus isn’t gonna protect them from chicken pox or the flu.
I love older science fiction where the author wants to make it known that he thinks homosexuality should be legal and accepted but doesn’t actually want to go so far as to openly depict gay characters… instead, he has his straight characters stand around and make asides to each other or the reader about how In The Exciting Spacefaring Future, Gay People Exist And We’re Okay With That, For The Record.
