getting mad that poorer children come to your wealthy neighborhood on halloween to get nicer candy and trick or treat safely has got to be like in the top 10 rich people arent human funny moments

Let me tell you about my neighborhood. Its an upper-middle class private community in the country on a lake. When I first moved here it was a community of highly skilled blue collar type people. Electricians, technicians at the nuclear power station, nurses. People like that. Every Halloween we would leave the gates open and put a sign out that said good candy, full size this way. That kind or thing. We’d get flooded with trick or treaters. It was such a fun night. Kids running amuck everywhere. Grown ups chasing after kids that smashed pumpkins but like in a playful way just to give them a little Halloween scare. Then the white collar DC and Richmond assholes started buying lots and houses and got control of the HOA and it all stopped. All the fun. Now the gates are not only kept shut on Halloween but the call box is disabled and you can only get in with your remote opener and there is a security guard at both gates. We’ve only had three or four trick or treaters last few years.

We had a really nice common lake access area with a playground and a picnic area and beautiful landscaping where people who didn’t have lakefront homes could go and enjoy the lake. They voted to cut spending money on it because most of them have lakefront homes and don’t need it and think its unfair they have to share the expense. Plus they didn’t like that we would bring our friends that were not as fortunate to enjoy what we had. So a bunch of us pinched in and decided to keep it up ourselves with our own time and money and you know what they did? They passed a bylaw that residents can’t spend private money or preform maintenance on community property. They don’t even want us have it even they don’t have to pay for it. Its just a dirt pit now pretty much. We used to ride golf carts and fourwheelers on the private roads to and from the lake and to neighbors houses but they didn’t like the noise and driving around us in their BMWs so they voted to poopoo that. Kids can’t ride bikes without a parent. They passed bylaws making holiday decorations uniform. There is a rule against everything we used to do for fun. No more community BBQs. No more yard sales. No more fireworks. Just endless quiet, manicured lawns, and bland Christmas decorations.

We were a real bootstrap community who fought our way up to have something nice. The kind of people that people like them preach about to poor people. Outside of Halloween we did other things in the neighborhood for poorer kids in surrounding communities and the old money assholes came in and ruined everything. This used to be such a fun place to live. We used to be an asset to the greater community now to the rest of the area we’re just the rich assholes who live behind the protection of our gates. And I cant blame them for thinking that. A lot of the original residents moved. As soon as my niece no longer needs the school district my sister and I are going to sell. The really messed up part is a good portion of them don’t even live here full time. Just weekends and holidays and summer. Its their second homes.
