This literally happened to my mom and while it may seem heartwarming gon the surface (and it was) the fact that this had to happen at all was utterly nonsensical. My mother had been working for the city for over 20 years, yet they still tried to screw her over despite having cancer. If my mom wasn’t lucky and did not build the relationships and rapport with her coworkers like she did (she moved to a new department from her old one and had only been there for a couple of years), she, and we her children, would’ve been shit out of luck.
