I’ve already said this, but the colonisation was ages[centuries] ago so you’re not really “calling us out” when we, the modern English, did not do it

You can’t honor your history when it’s positive, and then divorce yourself from it with “well I personally didn’t do that” when it’s negative.  It’s a package deal.  We all inherit a world built on the consequences of our forbearers’ actions – if you passively accept it, you are complicit in it for better or worse.  The UK’s wealth and global influence is built on it’s imperial history.  Other countries are still suffering the consequences of said history.

I’m not specifically picking on the UK here, this applies to everybody.  If your parents built a fortune on stolen money, you can’t inherit and keep that money rather than give it back and pretend you aren’t complicit because you weren’t the one who stole it.
