it really pains me to see “cinephiles” who jerk it to the most boring films and defend them like “it’s not supposed to be enjoyed. it supposed to be appreciated” like why would I waste 2 hours of my life being underwhelmed when I could be having fun watching Jennifer’s body
I work at a film school and my favourite thing to do to the new students is ask their top 5 favourite films. There are 2 types of students:
“Something by Kubrick, something by Francis Ford Coppola, some French film from the 50s no one has heard of, something by Polanski, something by Hitchcock.”
Like, ok, cool, whatever.
“WONDER WOMAN! Omg, and, Lord of the Rings, er, probably Return of the King if I had to pick a favourite. And Hidden Figures was hella great – DUDE HAVE YOU SEEN PRINCE OF EGYPT! Or Coraline like holy shit and doesn’t Star Wars make you wanna go to space? Oh I died at Moonlight – so fucking gorgeous, and I loved Inception cause Cillian Murphy has the best eyes and the soundtrack was awesome. Slumdog Millionaire is fucking stunning – have you seen A Quiet Place? TOY STORY!!!!!! ”
Like, abso-fucking-lutely that was way more passionate, I’m gonna help you make films.
